Copper was discovered in IC Christensen Land in northern Greenland by GEUS research scientists in 1995. Copper sulphides and native copper were discovered in Proterozoic sandstones suggesting the potential for sediment hosted, stratiform copper deposits. The timing and setting of the mineralizations is directly analogous to the Zambian copper belt. Aside from the very short duration GEUS expedition the region is essentially unexplored. Avannaa has first mover advantage in virgin ground that potentially contains a very large copper deposit. Whilst the location is remote it is close to a large fjord system that will allow boat access, the terrain is gentle and aircraft can use simple tundra airstrips.
During 2010 Avannaa will conduct reconnaissance field work to establish prospecitivity, confirm the geological model and to assess the best method of advancing this project.
