Licence 2010/20, 14 km2
Flammefjeld is a high grade stockwork Climax-type molybdenum mineralisation with associated high grade vein-type gold mineralisations. The licence area is located in Kangerdluqssuaq fjord in East Greenland near the famous Skaergaard layered igneous intrusion.Flammefjeld was discovered by Nordmine in 1970, since then it has been held by Platinova, Galahad Gold and Quadra Mining. The potential of the postulated ore body to host 200 million tonnes of up to 0.45 % MoS2 has long been recognised.
Whilst the terrain is steep it has the advantage of being next to a deepwater fjord which will greatly facilitate access for mine development.
Fluctuations in the commodity cycle have created the situation where this exciting project has never been tested by drilling.
During 2010 Avannaa will conduct site reconnaisance and economic modelling to enable a fast track delineation decision.
