Greenland

Greenland is a country with excellent potential for finding new mineral deposits because despite the presence of very favourable geological environments, intensity of exploration within the last twenty years has been low compared to other arctic and sub-arctic regions.

Being an island with exposed bedrock concentrated in a fjord cut coastal strip, Greenland has a very big proportion of its land area within close proximity to tidal water, a factor that must be offset against the absence of land-based infrastructure.

The Government of Greenland has for many years followed policies to encourage mining exploration activity, and has continuously recognised that the difficult logistical challenges need to be balanced by transparent and efficient licencing procedures and by favourable tax policies. Companies who operate in Greenland can thus focus 100% on the geological bottom line, making the country an obvious choice for grass-roots explorationists.
