Hugh received a bachelors in geology from the University of Edinburgh in 1982 and a Sloan M.Sc. in Management from London Business School in 2001. During the 1980’s and 90’s he held a number of staff geologist and senior management positions in respectively BP and Enterprise Oil plc, culminating as head of Enterprise’s Southeast Asia division.
Since 2001 he has been in the management team of three start up companies in technology, construction and oil services. He was a key figure in the growth of The Peak Group and in their $50 million trade sale to AGR AS (Norway) in 2006. Hugh is a founder of Avannaa and is responsible for strategy, fundraising, business development and communications.
He is a keen climber and skier and has participated in several expeditions to Northeast Greenland since 1982. He is founder of the Mackay Greenland Fund an endowment fund that supports scientific expeditions to Greenland. http://www.mackaygreenlandfund.com
